Being a leader can be extremely difficult and can have many challengers. However, you will never get better or learn if you don’t give it a try. Becoming a great leader isn’t something that happens overnight or there isn’t a magic formula to being a great leader, but it can be achieved through a lot of hard work and dedication. Being a good leader in St John Ambulance is important as all duties are out in public and involve helping the community. Therefore, the community and the people we are working with need to be able to trust us and feel safe. Here are some leadership skills to consider.
- Know your strengths and weakness
- Listen to your team
- Be a good example
- Communicate effectively
- Be passionate
- Don’t make excuses
- Constantly learn
- Be approachable
Just remember that if things get hard don’t give up. Go and talk to people get advice on how they do things, don’t be afraid to seek help. Most importantly though have fun and enjoy the opportunity.
